The central and state governments are committed to ensuring that human rights are not violated and safeguarding the fundamental rights of citizens.
He was addressing an event organized by Tripura Human Rights Commission on the occasion of observance of International Human Rights Day at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, the Chief Minister said, our country stands as an example of harmony, culture, and unity in diversity on the global stage. But a divisive force is still trying to destroy it.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the importance of observing Human Rights Day to foster awareness among citizens. He noted that the present Tripura Human Rights Commission has been resolving several cases and upholding the principles of justice.
He mentioned the introduction of three new initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership to ensure access to justice, which were implemented on July 9, 2023. These included the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita- 2023.
The primary objective of the three newly introduced legal initiatives is to fundamentally reform the nation’s judicial system. These initiatives aim to protect women, children, and vulnerable sections of society by ensuring justice and legal rights.
Speaking at the event, Director General of Police (DGP) Amitabh Ranjan emphasized that providing equal rights to citizens in economic, social, and cultural spheres is essential for national and societal harmony. He acknowledged the Human Rights Commission's pivotal role in safeguarding these rights.
Chairman of Tripura Commission for Women Barnali Dey also spoke about the importance of protecting citizens' rights. She highlighted how awareness and participation at the grassroots level are critical to maintaining harmony in a diverse nation like India.
Chairman of Tripura Human Rights Commission Justice S.C. Das, Secretary Ratan Biswas, Advocate General Shaktimoy Chakraborty and Lokayukta B.K. Kilikdar were also present.
In another seminar on Human Rights issues particularly pertaining to the present HR violations of the Hindus in Bangladesh speakers expressed their serious concern. RSS Pracharak of the state Nikhil Niwashkar , however, pointed out that the Hindus in Bangladesh despite unimaginable atrocities and threats could display exemplary courage and stood against the perpetrators united.
“In an unprecedented show of courage that displayed the inner strength of the Hindus they got together and countered the perpetrators braving all odds. These courageous acts should also be reflected and praised and strengthened whenever the HR issues of Bangladesh are discussed”, he said adding that the times had changed and the mental barrier and notions that hitherto shaped the Hindu psyche and the socio-political narratives were clearly no more going to be effective.
