Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said that India’s biggest strength is its youth demography, and it has to make the most of it by the next 25 years.

Addressing a workshop on Institutional Development Plan (IDP) in New Delhi, Mr. Pradhan said that Indian higher education institutes need to provide a robust ecosystem where competence is prioritised over simply handing out degrees.

He added that they also need to explore multi-disciplinary learning where different courses and studies could converge and provide innovative solutions to existing problems. Discussing upon bringing together the University Grants Commission (UGC) and institutes, Mr. Pradhan said that the UGC should be viewed not just as a regulator but also as a facilitator.

The Minister also launched the Compendium of UGC Regulations, introducing various rules, regulations, and notifications for higher education. The IDP Workshop for Higher Educational Institutions features vice-chancellors and academicians across India to brainstorm and plan strategies for their institutions.
