India’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi stuns with fastest youth ODI ton

Must Read

India’s young batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, smashed the fastest known century in youth ODIs—reaching his hundred in just 52 balls against England U19 in Worcester. His explosive 143 off 78 balls powered India U19 towards a massive total, continuing his sensational form following a record-breaking IPL debut.

In a breathtaking display of power-hitting and fearless cricket, India’s 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into the record books by scoring the fastest known century in youth One Day Internationals (ODIs). The right-hander brought up his hundred in just 52 balls during the fourth Youth ODI against England U19, finishing with a dazzling 143 off 78 balls.

The match, held at Worcester, witnessed the young Indian batter go on a rampage, smashing 13 boundaries and 10 sixes. His blitzkrieg innings set the platform for a massive Indian total in the 50-over contest. At the end of 40 overs, India had already piled up 290/4, with Vihaan Malhotra still unbeaten on a century of his own.

India, who entered the fourth ODI with a 2-1 lead in the five-match youth series, opted to bat first after winning the toss. However, their start wasn’t ideal as captain Ayush Mhatre was dismissed early for just 5 runs. What followed, however, was a sensational 219-run second-wicket partnership between Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Vihaan Malhotra that turned the game completely in India’s favour.

The duo showed maturity beyond their years, mixing aggression with composure. While Vihaan anchored one end, Vaibhav lit up the park with an array of fearless strokes that reflected the style he showcased during the IPL 2025 season.

Vaibhav, who hails from Bihar, has been under the spotlight ever since his dramatic entry into the IPL earlier this year. He began his IPL journey in iconic fashion—hitting a six off the very first ball he faced. That debut season ended with him scoring 252 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 206.55. His blazing 35-ball 101 against Gujarat Titans became the second-fastest century in IPL history, catching the attention of selectors and fans alike.

Riding on that momentum, Suryavanshi was drafted into the India U19 squad and has continued to impress. His performances leading up to this landmark innings included knocks of 48 off 19 balls, 45 off 34 balls, and 86 off just 31 balls in the first three ODIs of the series.

Saturday’s innings not only highlighted his batting prowess but also his hunger for making a mark on the international stage. It is rare for a 14-year-old to showcase such a blend of raw power and technical flair in competitive cricket, especially against a team like England U19.

After Vaibhav’s dismissal—caught off the bowling of Ben Mayes—the Indian innings briefly stuttered. Rahul Kumar and Harvansh Singh were dismissed for a seven-ball duck and a golden duck respectively by Sebastian Morgan, creating a momentary slump. But Vihaan Malhotra’s steady presence ensured India stayed on course for a 300-plus total.

If India managed to win the game, they would seal the five-match series with one game to spare—an impressive feat for this new generation of cricketers.

The records in youth ODIs are not meticulously documented globally, but as per the available data, no century in the youth ODI format has been scored faster than Vaibhav’s 52-ball hundred. This stunning feat cements his reputation as one of India’s most promising young cricketing talents.

Experts and fans alike are already drawing parallels between Suryavanshi and India’s senior team icons, given his natural flair and aggressive intent. Many believe it is only a matter of time before he earns a call-up to the senior national side if he continues to perform consistently.

In the era of high-tempo cricket, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s innings stands as a testament to the power of youth and the evolving nature of modern batting. With IPL experience already under his belt and now a youth ODI record to his name, the cricketing world has just witnessed the rise of a potential superstar.
