Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and 43 other MLAs were sworn in on Thursday.
The other Members of Legislative assembly included apart from the BJP and IPFT members also opposition CPM and Congress MLAs. Protem Speaker Binoy Bhusan Das administered the oath of office to the MLAs in the assembly.
Only Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman for some reasons did not take oath on Thursday. He would take oath later some other day.
Altogether 31 BJP-IPFT MLAs, two Congress MLAs and 11 CPM MLAs were sowrn in on Thursday. The 13 Tipra Motha MLAs are scheduled to take oath on Friday.
. The BJP MLAs except Rampada Jamatia, Biswabandhu Sen and Pramod Reang read out the oath of office in Bengali. IPFT MLA Shukla Charan Noatia took oath in Kokborok.
In the second part, 11 CPM MLAs including Jitendra Chaudhury were sworn in the office chamber of the Protem Speaker.
The Chief Minister Dr Saha later chaired a meeting with the BJP MLAs at his office in the assembly. In the meeting, the MLAs shared their views on various important matters regarding the upcoming assembly session.
Meanwhile, the BJP-IPFT alliance secured victory in 33 out of 60 seats. The strength has now been reduced to 32.
Earlier Senior BJP leader, Pratima Bhowmik who was elected an MLA from the Dhanpur Legislative Assembly constituency in the recently concluded Tripura Legislative Assembly election resigned from her seat. Bhowmik's resignation comes just a day ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of the new MLAs.
Talking to reporters, Ms. Bhowmik, who is the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment said, as per rule, she cannot be an MLA and an MP at the same time. She said her party, the BJP, had asked her to contest from the Dhanpur Assembly seat. Ms. Bhowmik had defeated her nearest rival from CPI (M) Kaushik Chanda. Senior BJP leader Binoy Bhushan Das who took oath as the Pro-tem speaker earlier today said that he has accepted the resignation of Ms. Bhowmik.
