The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) is organizing a conference titled “Building Bridges: Trade and Connectivity through Land Port Sabroom” on Tuesday, at the newly inaugurated Land Port Sabroom in Tripura. The event will be graced by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Shailendra Kumar Sinha, Chief Commissioner of Customs & Indirect Taxes (CCIT), Guwahati, and Ravi Gandhi, Additional Director General, Eastern Command, Border Security Force, Kolkata. The LPAI in a press statement stated this here today.

The conference will feature the release of key publications, including the LPAI History Book, which chronicles the evolution of LPAI since its establishment in 2012, and the LPAI Coffee Table Book, offering a visual journey through milestones and stories shaping cross-border connectivity. Additionally, LPAI’s Sustainable Land Ports Policy, outlining a vision to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035 and net zero by 2047, will be launched, along with the much-anticipated report titled “Sabroom Land Port: Impact Assessment, Prospects, Opportunities, and Challenges.”

Inaugurated on March 9, 2024, by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Land Port Sabroom is one of the newest additions to LPAI’s growing network and serves as a cornerstone for advancing India-Bangladesh relations and regional trade integration. Located in the southernmost part of Tripura, the port holds immense strategic importance due to its advantageous proximity to various modes of intra- and inter-regional connectivity. It acts as a vital trade and transit hub, linking the Northeastern Region (NER) to mainland India and providing seamless access to global markets through the Chattogram Port in Bangladesh.

Beyond its trade and transit functions, Sabroom is poised to become a hub for transport, logistics, and manufacturing. The region is set to host a multi-sector Special Economic Zone (SEZ), a dedicated logistics hub, and the Land Port—all within a 10-km radius. These developments are expected to drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, and boost regional industrial activity.

The conference will also feature a panel discussion titled “Sabroom as the Gateway of Northeast: Boosting India-Bangladesh Trade & Connectivity.” This session will bring together participants from the government, logistics industry, and academia to provide actionable insights into leveraging the port’s infrastructure to unlock economic opportunities for the NER while strengthening regional cooperation between India and Bangladesh.

The releases and discussions at this event will highlight the transformative potential of Land Ports Authority of India as a driver of trade efficiency, logistics optimization, and regional connectivity.
