Bru Socio-Cultural Organization took exception to the way no member from the Bru -also known as Reang- community -was inducted in the new Dr Manik Saha government.
The organization in a press conference at Santirbazar Press Club demanded that at least one minister from the Bru community should be taken in the ministry so that overall development of the Reang tribesmen could be ensured in right earnest.
The Bru leaders of the South Muri unit of the organization sought to attract the attention of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha to their demand and hoped that he would give berth to at least one Bru minister in his cabinet-where three positions were still vacant.
“We are hopeful that the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha would be positive to our demand”, said the Bru leaders.
On behalf of Bru Socio-Cultural Organization, Devidson Reang (president), Amit Reang (secretary), Krishnabati Reang (women welfare), Siddhartha Reang (cultural secretary), Rajesh Reang (youth secretary) and Dinesh Reang (treasurer) among others were present in the press conference.
They feel, the Bru people would be highly benefitted if the demand is fulfilled.
Meanwhile, a good number of Bru people displaced from Mizoram following ethnic conflicts who took shelter in Tripura years ago were permanently settled in the state as per a quadripartite agreement signed between the Central Government, Government of Tripura, Government of Mizoram and Bru leaders.
The eligible voters from the rehabilitated Brus people had also exercised their democratic rights in the Tripura assembly polls- for the first time.
