The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed an uncontested victory in a significant number of panchayat seats in Tripura, as announced by BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee during a press conference at the party headquarters. The BJP secured 4,704 out of 6,370 Gram Panchayat seats, 244 out of 423 Panchayat Samiti seats, and 20 out of 116 Zilla Parishad seats uncontested. Bhattacharjee attributed this success to the developmental progress in Tripura under the double-engine government, referring to the collaboration between the Central and State governments.
Bhattacharjee highlighted the developmental achievements in Tripura, including infrastructure improvements in roads, drinking water, and electricity. He noted that over 4 lakh poor families in both rural and urban areas have been provided with pucca houses, and sanitation and drinking water supply have been extended to every household. Social pensions have increased significantly from Rs 700 to Rs 20,000, and the Ayushman Bharat Card has been provided to poor families for healthcare benefits.
In response to the opposition's allegations of disruption during the nomination submission process, Bhattacharjee accused the CPI(M) of attempting to field candidates through financial inducements. He suggested that the opposition's inability to submit nomination papers was due to their internal shortcomings and weaknesses.
