Arindam Nath No More

Reitired Inspector General of Police ( and celebrated writer Arindam Nath passed away on Saturday morning at around 9.55 am in Narayan Hridayalay at Bengaluru. He was 62 and survived by wife Dr Paramita Biswas and son Arkaprava.
Arindam Nath was suffering from severe lung infection for the last two months. He was first admitted in a city hospital and in view of the severity of the lung ailment he was taken to Ventilation immediately. But as the condition worsened Nath was flown to Bengaluru in a chartered flight where he struggled in a hugely critical condition. His fight ended on Saturday morning.
Nath was born in 1962 and studied in Dharmanagar and then in MBB College in science stream. After graduation he also studied in North Bengal university. Always a brilliant student Nath’s passion for mathematics, physics, Rabindra Sangeet, literature and criminal psychology marked his entire career and brief retired life. He first joined as a science teacher in Kamalpur Class XII school and then appeared at the TPSC examination and then joined as Tripura Police Service Officer. He became IPS in 2012. He held several police positions and at the peak of his career became IGP Law and order. But for his extremely pro people role and success Nath was always remembered as DSP Central Saheb –the position he made remarkable and the tag did not leave him ever. In fact, he also felt happy when people used to refer to him as DSP Central although he was by then an IGP.
Besides his achievements as popular police man and eminence as straight forward and honest officer Nath was also an eminent literary figure of the state. A prolific writer that he was, Nath authored as many as 16 books and innumerable short stories. He was always present in literary circles of the state and also represented in several literary events outside of the state. His first book was Tarmuj Paglar kahini and then he became famous for his book ‘From Mahabharata to Bharat’ in English.
He had to undergo bypass heart surgery three years ago. During this surgery one of his lungs got damaged. Later in July last week another lung got infected which ultimately led to his death following series of critical moments. His mortal remains will be flown in on Sunday at around 12 noon at his Nandannagar residence.
As soon as the news of his demise became known a pall of sadness descended in the entire state. The netizens took to social media to express their grief and condolence. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also in his social media post expressed grief and condolence
