The 9th Amur Falcon Festival was celebrated with great fervour at the Lower Ground of Tamenglong district in Manipur today. The event was organized by the District Administration of Tamenglong, the State Forest Department, and the Rainforest Club of Tamenglong.

The Amur Falcon Festival is celebrated annually in Tamenglong district of Manipur to raise awareness of the migratory bird Amur falcon, which roosts in Tamenglong district during October-November every year when it flies to the southern and eastern parts of Africa.

The one-day festival commenced with vibrant performances, including cultural dances by various troupes.

It may be noted that two Amur falcons were satellite-tagged by the Wildlife Trust of India this year and released from Tamenglong district as part of ongoing efforts to study and protect these migratory birds. State Minister of Water Resources and Relief & Disaster, Awangbow Newmai, and other government officials attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, State Minister Awangbow Newmai said that since 2015, Tamenglong has been a beacon of hope for the protection of the Amur falcon. He encouraged the people to continue protecting the birds in the region during their roosting season.
