Trinamool Congress on Monday staged a protest demonstration against arrest of their one local leader Panna Deb. The protest was held in front of East Agartala Policestation
Panna deb who recently joined TMC from Congress, was on Sunday arrested in connection with suicidal death of one of her niece. She was produced before the court and sent to police remand for three days.
Her relative Rajashri Deb was found hanging at her Indranagar residence along with an alleged suicide note on September 3 last. Based on the suicide note, East Agartala police arrested Panna Deb.
Deceased’s mother told the media that Rajashri was struggling with mental health issues. She denied accusing anybody for the death of Rajashri. She also said it was Panna deb who used to look after her psychiatric treatment and helped the family always. In fact in the protest demonstration Rajashri’s mother herself also joined demanding Panna Deb’s release.
The arrestee also said that the deceased was a psychiatric patient and she was under treatment for the same. She alleged that the police was harassing her because of her political involvement with TMC.
According to advocate Raghunath Mukherjee, the case was registered under section 306 and 34 of IPC. Four names including Panna Deb were there for abetment of suicide. Deb’s bail plea was rejected by the court and she would be produced before the court again on September 7 next, Mukherjee told the media.
He also said that seperate affidavit was filed by the deceased’s mother and brother to apprise the court that Rajashri was a psychiatric patient and her paternal aunt (Panna Deb) had no connection with the suicide. However, the court didn’t consider the affidavit at this stage since it’s a case under section 306, Mukherjee said.
