Political clashes erupted in Dhanpur area on Monday as former Chief Minister and incumbent opposition leader Manik Sarkar’s convoy was gheraoed by a strong crowd at Kathalia raising the Chit fund scams committed during his tenure.
According to first reports reaching here, even as Sarkar was trying to reason with some of them local CPM activists tried to disperse them forcibly. That sparked off a major clash as the crowd that gheraoed the opposition leader’s convoy turned out to be inspired by local BJP. In the clash several persons were injured.
Dhanpur happens to be assembly constituency of Sarkar from where he returned since 1998. At the same time it is also the home constituency of Union Minister and BJP stalwart Pratima Bhowmik.
