All India Trinamool Congress and Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev have once again moved the Supreme Court alleging attacks and assaults on the TMC workers, but this time, they moved with contempt petition against the state government making the Home secretary, DGP, all SPs and West Tripura DM party in the case for their alleged failure to obey the previous order on November 11 last of the Apex Court.

In the petition the TMC alleged that the respondents committed gross contempt and wilful disobedience of the Supreme Court order that –no political parties which is in the fray is prevented from pursuing its electoral rights  and from campaigning in a peaceful and orderly manner. The Supreme Court had also asked the state authorities—the SPs – to ensure security and safety of the petitioners.

Besides filing the contempt petition Rajya Sabha MP Dev in a press conference in Agartala on Thursday alleged relentless attacks and assaults on the Trinamool Congress candidates and workers by the ruling party supporters.

In a press conference here she was accompanied by her party leaders from West Bengal alleged that the TMC programmes were being either cancelled at the last moment or the stages were vandalized.

“All are being committed to stop us from poll campaign and intimidate”, said Dev.

The TMC Rajya Sabha MP sounded particularly peeved at the Tripura police for their alleged inaction and often partisan steps.

Apart from raising questions against the Tripura she has also written a strongly worded letter

to the Director General of Police- V.S. Yadav and sought immediate action to stop the ‘violence against TMC workers’.

In her letter the MP gave reference to some incidents alleged that on Wednesday night police in Teliamura acted in a partisan manner when TMC workers and leaders like Anirban Sarkar , Jawhar Das were assaulted.

She alleged that that many of the TMC workers who came from West Bengal to participate in the election activities in support of the TMC candidates were being harassed by the police.

She referred to the 2018 assembly elections when BJP had booked almost all the hotels in Agartala and other places of the state and brought their workers from Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra in 2018 assembly polls but they freely worked as the state police didn’t take any action against the BJP workers from outside.

Besides, highlighting the attacks on the TMC workers in some places ahead of the civic body polls, Dev alleged that several complaints were lodged in connection with such attacks but not a single arrest was made so far she requested the DGP to immediately act on such complaints.

“It is crystal clear that the Tripura Police are acting under political pressure and are biased. Despite the fact that the Hon’ble Supreme Court has passed an order that every political party who have arrived must campaign freely & Tripura Police and administration must ensure their security,” the letter reads.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress activists including Sayantika Banerjee, Sayoni Ghosh, June Malia and Arpita Ghosh, all from West Bengal, took part in a candle march in the evening from AMC ward no- 11 to GB hospital more condemning the recent brutal attacks in Tripura.
