TIPRA Motha activists went violent and pulled down an under-construction Bio-Fertilizer factory at Makraibari in Amarpur sub-division on Thursday.
Since the TIPRA Motha came to TTAADC power there were several complaints that the party workers were disturbing or forcing to stop development activities, by one or the other pretext. Even there were also complaints of forcibly stopping the ONGC activities in the ADC areas.
On Thursday , however, the mob damaged construction materials in a godown, pulled down the boundary of the site, workers’ shed as well as the police barrack. It virtually became free for all violence with the TIPRA Motha workers running amok even as police remained a mere spectator.
Sources said, the state government decided to construct a Bio Fertilizer factory at Makraibari. But a section of people belonging to the TIPRA Motha raised objection that the no such construction would be allowed on this land. The workers at the face of resistence had to stop the construction and leave the site multiple times.
However, when the workers along with police went to the construction site two days ago, some of the local women this time came forward and raised objection and they also threatened of committing suicide. In such a situation, the police personnel felt helpless and left the site.
On Thursday, a rally was held at Makraibari in presence of Deputy CEM of TTAADC Animesh Debbarma, executive member Doli Reang and Bhavaranjan Reang. All of a sudden, a large group of people, who were in the rally, entered the construction site and pulled down everything that the construction site had in presence of the police.
Soon after the incident, site contractor Tapan Chakraborty lodged a complaint at Birganj police station.
When contacted, OC of Birganj police station Jayanta Das said that a complaint was received and police would take action as per the law.
