On August 24, a 28-year-old woman from Harbatli, Sarum, and her newborn were rescued and transported to Sabrum Sub-Divisional Hospital after the mother suffered severe postpartum hemorrhage. The woman had given birth at 4 a.m., and her condition worsened as floodwaters from the Manu River made access to medical care difficult.

HOPE activist Kartamala Tripura contacted Dr. Soumik Hazra, the Medical Officer of Sabrum Sub-Divisional Hospital, at 8 a.m. Dr. Hazra swiftly coordinated with the subdivisional administration, leading to the deployment of an NDRF team. Despite challenging flood conditions, the rescue team, along with Dr. Hazra and Nursing Officer Debashis Nath, set out from Manughat at 8:30 p.m. to reach the family.

Late that night, the mother and child were safely brought to the hospital. The mother’s hemoglobin had dropped dangerously due to the hemorrhage, but timely intervention by Dr. Suman Debvarma stabilized her condition. She was later transferred to South District Hospital in Shantirbazar, where she received further treatment, including two units of blood. Both mother and child are now stable, and the family has expressed deep gratitude to the medical team and local authorities.
