
On Wednesday, Finance Minister, Pranajit Singha Roy, inaugurated a three-day Saras Mela at Rajarshi Kalakshetra, Udaipur, marking a significant occasion for Gomati district in Tripura. In his address, Minister Singha Roy lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to empower women, specifically mentioning the aspiration to create “Lakhpati Didis” (women with a net worth of a lakh).
Singha Roy highlighted the state government’s commitment to this vision, aiming to transform the lives of 2 lakh women in Tripura. He proudly announced that over 80,000 women have already achieved the “Lakhpati Didi” status, with Gomati district alone contributing approximately 14,800 empowered women to this cause.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, the state government has been spearheading various initiatives to empower women across Tripura. Singha Roy emphasized the pivotal role of the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission in driving women’s empowerment, particularly through the establishment of Self Help Groups (SHGs) which have been transformative for rural women.
The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of three MLAs, Rampada Jamatia, Jitendra Majumder, and Abhishek Debroy, signifying the collective commitment towards women’s empowerment and socioeconomic development in the region. A total of 43 SHGs participated in the Saras Mela, showcasing a diverse array of handmade products, symbolizing the entrepreneurial spirit and creativity of the local women.
In a gesture aimed at furthering the accessibility of resources, representatives from three SHGs were provided with mobile CSC vans during the event, underscoring the commitment to advancing outreach and support mechanisms for women across Tripura. The Saras Mela stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts and unwavering dedication towards fostering inclusive growth and empowerment at the grassroots level.
