In a shocking incident on Thursday, a passenger onboard a flight from Guwahati to Agartala attempted to open the aircraft’s emergency exit mid-air. The reckless act sent shockwaves through the cabin, causing panic among passengers. However, thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of a fellow traveler and the cabin crew, a potential disaster was narrowly averted.
The passenger in question, identified as Biswajit Debnath, aged 41, was flying on an IndiGo flight when he allegedly attempted to open the emergency exit door during the flight. This dangerous act posed a severe threat to the safety of everyone on board. Had Debnath succeeded in opening the emergency door, the aircraft could have faced catastrophic consequences, potentially leading to a crash.
Fortunately, one of the co-passengers managed to intervene and physically restrain Debnath, preventing him from carrying out his perilous plan. The swift action of this fellow traveler and the immediate response of the airline’s cabin crew played a crucial role in averting a disaster.
Upon landing at Maharaja Bir Bikram airport in Agartala, Biswajit Debnath was promptly apprehended by authorities. He now faces charges related to attempting to open the emergency exit door during the flight and misbehaving with the airline’s crew members.
Law enforcement officials have reported that Debnath appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and further legal action will be taken as necessary.
This harrowing incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining safety and security protocols on commercial flights. The actions of the courageous co-passenger and the vigilant cabin crew members exemplify the critical role that quick thinking and responsible behavior play in ensuring the safety of all passengers on board.
