For the first time in its history of since  inception in 1980 Tripura Tea Development Corporation has become a profit making entity, said Santosh Saha, Chairman of the corporation on Saturday. Addressing a press conference here in Agartala, Saha said, the corporation makes a profit of Rs 14,29,63,879  for the financial year 2020-21 while the expenditure was Rs 13,17,14,128.

He said, “For the first time since the corporation was formed in 1980, this year the corporation saw profit, the credits goes to all the workers associated with the occupation, as their relentless efforts made it true.”

As the corporation has seen a face of profit, the corporation has decided to increase the wages of the workers by Rs 15, Saha said, adding that the increment has already been affected since January 1 last.

Durgapur Tea Garden and Manu Valley Group also implemented the increment, he added.   

According to Saha, in the 105 year history of tea production started in Tripura the wage was increased to Rs 146 from Rs 105.

The tea produced in Tripura is being sold for Rs 274 at the Aksan market in Kolkata, he added.

He also informed, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with TNGCL for pipeline gas supply for Durgabari Tea processing sector to avoid the crises of coal.
