In Tamilnadu, 22 fishermen from Thoothukudi were arrested by the Srilankan Navy today. Two boats were seized in the incident. More than a 100 hundred fishermen were fishing at the Gulf of Mannar when the Srilankan Navy had surrounded the fishermen for trespassing into the international waters.
The apprehended fishermen were later taken to the Mannar Naval base for further interrogation by the officials. The fishermen associations have appealed to the State and the Central Governments to take necessary steps to free the fishermen.
