A combined effort of a network of Hospitals has helped in saving a highly critical malaria patient in Gomati District. The patient is currently undergoing treatment in Gomati District Hospital under the care of Dr. Abhijit Datta, Child specialist of District Hospital.
A 10- year-old boy, Karan Tripura, of Chaplin Chara of Tirthamukh under Karbook Block was almost in an unconscious state and suffering from cerebral encephalopathy, a life threatening condition, when he was brought to the Gomati hospital. But joint efforts of a team of doctors and health staff saved his life and Karan is now recovering.
Sources said, Karan was admitted to Natunbazar Hospital after detection of malaria Pf positive on January 7 last. While he was undergoing treatment there, Karan’s haemoglobin level was found to be gradually decreasing.
The incident alerted the MOIC of Natunbazar RH – Dr. Milanbhakta Jamatia and he promptly communicated with Dr. Arjun Saha, District Malaria Officer of Gomati District who in turn, alerted District Hospital’s team in advance to be ready to admit the patient.
Meanwhile, the patient, Karan Tripura, slipped into a semi-conscious state with a shock of cerebral encephalopathy and was immediately referred to Gomati District Hospital.
The 10 Years old boy was taken to the Gomati District Hospital where a team of Doctors comprising Dr. Abhijit Datta and Dr. Sharmistha Chowdhury including Blood Bank staff made all the necessary preparations even before the patient reached hospital.As soon as Karan reached the Hospital, we started the treatment, said Dr. Arjun Saha and added that the patient was administered one unit of blood.Dr Saha also appreciated the chain of efforts by the Health personnel originating from the sub centre and culminating at District Hospital. This concerted effort saved Karan and He is now recovering under the treatment in Gomati District Hospital, Dr Saha commented.
