The Cardiology Department of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital achieved a significant milestone with the successful performance of a complex surgery on a patient afflicted with a rare and intricate disease.

A resident of the Bardowali area in Agartala, Mithu Karmakar (46), sought medical assistance due to persistent pain in both legs, ulceration of the right toe, and walking difficulties persisting for six months.

Upon examination, it was revealed that the patient’s major blood vessels, spanning from the abdominal aorta to both legs, were constricted and obstructed, posing a formidable medical challenge.

Under the leadership of Dr. Rakesh Das and Dr. Anindya Sundar Trivedi, Consultant Cardiologists at the Cardiology Department of AGMC and GBP Hospital, a team of specialists successfully conducted the intricate surgery, marking a remarkable feat in medical care.

Acknowledging the financial burden associated with treatment for this rare ailment in private healthcare facilities, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha extended support to ensure the patient received proper medical attention.

Expressing gratitude, the patient’s family commended the expertise of the cardiologists and healthcare staff for delivering exemplary medical care within the state, sparing the need for external medical interventions.

The team of specialized doctors, including Dr. Surjit Paul and Dr. Manimoy Debbarma, alongside junior doctors from the Cardiology Department—Dr. Artha Pratim Nath, Dr. Anurupa Bose, Dr. Samrat Das, Dr. Prasenjit Nandi, Dr. Anwesha Debnath, and Dr. Asmin Chakma—collaborated seamlessly to execute the successful surgery, underscoring the prowess of the state’s medical fraternity.
