A stray dog went on a biting spree in Boxanagar on Saturday, leaving nine individuals, including three women, injured. Among the victims, Nayan Paul (12), Hanif Miah (60), Minuara Begam (31), Jyoti Rani Das (57), Rojuni Akhtar (29), and Rajia Khatun (65) suffered from dog bites, with Hanif being referred to the IGM hospital for further treatment.
The rabid dog initially attacked one person in the Madhya Boxanagar area before targeting others in Ashabari, Kalsimura, Putia, and Boxanagar between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Despite the occurrences, the authorities did not take any concrete action to capture the dog, which caused a great deal of fear among the locals.
Furthermore, affected individuals received inadequate assistance at the Boxanagar community health center. According to a medical officer on duty, preliminary treatment was administered, but the health centre lacked rabies injection stocks, posing a challenge in managing the victims’ injuries.
The lack of effective measures and immediate medical resources has intensified apprehensions among residents, urging authorities to take swift action in addressing both the stray dog issue and ensuring adequate medical support for the victims.
