Agartala Mayor Dipak Majumdar urged community participation in the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026 during a district-level programme in Ward No. 39. The statewide health initiative aims to protect children from diarrhoeal diseases through awareness drives, hygiene education, sanitation measures, and preventive healthcare activities across Tripura until July 31.
Tripura’s ongoing public health initiative, the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026, achieved another significant milestone on Tuesday with the successful organization of a district-level awareness programme at the Community Hall of Ward No. 39 in Agartala. The event was conducted by the Ashrampara Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) as part of the state government’s extensive effort to safeguard children from diarrhoeal diseases and promote preventive healthcare practices across communities.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, who emphasized the critical role of community participation in preventing diarrhoeal diseases, particularly among children. Addressing the gathering, the Mayor highlighted that diarrhoea continues to be a major public health concern and can lead to severe health complications if timely preventive measures are not adopted.
He urged residents, parents, and guardians to actively support the campaign by maintaining proper hygiene and sanitation practices at home and in their communities. He also encouraged families to participate in the awareness programmes being conducted under the campaign and to utilize the information provided by health workers to protect children from preventable illnesses.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent dignitaries, including Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Corporator Alok Roy, and Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Chief Medical Officer of West Tripura district. Senior officials and healthcare personnel from the state health department also attended the programme, reaffirming the government’s commitment to improving public health awareness and reducing the burden of diarrhoeal diseases.
Officials informed that the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2026 was launched across Tripura on June 16 and will continue until July 31, 2026. Throughout this period, healthcare workers and volunteers will conduct awareness drives, distribute educational materials, promote safe drinking water practices, and encourage proper sanitation measures in both urban and rural areas.
The campaign aims to ensure that every household, especially those with young children, receives accurate information about diarrhoea prevention and treatment. Health officials noted that early medical intervention, adequate hydration, and awareness about hygiene are essential in preventing complications associated with diarrhoeal diseases.
According to health experts, diarrhoea remains one of the leading causes of illness among children and can contribute to severe dehydration and other health risks if not addressed promptly. Therefore, the campaign focuses on educating families about handwashing, safe food handling, clean drinking water, and the importance of seeking medical assistance when symptoms appear.
By actively engaging local communities, schools, healthcare institutions, and civic bodies, the initiative seeks to build a culture of preventive healthcare throughout the state. Officials expressed confidence that increased public awareness and collective action will help reduce cases of diarrhoeal diseases and improve child health outcomes in Tripura.
