Two days of relentless rain have wreaked havoc in Tripura, triggering floods in Sarbam village of Amarpur sub-division and raising flood concerns in Kalyanpur.

The rising water level of the Gomati River has submerged nearby areas in Sarbam, forcing at least seven families to flee their homes and seek refuge in relief camps. Amarpur sub-division officials, under the leadership of BDO Utpal Das and Block Panchayat Samiti vice-chairman Shankarananda Saha, have swiftly responded to the situation. Disaster Management volunteers equipped with motorized boats are stationed near the flood zones to assist with evacuations.

By Tuesday evening, the displaced families were relocated to relief camps established at the Birganj Uttar Para Primary Health Center and Bangkaraipara SB School. The administration is ensuring their well-being by providing food and other essential supplies. These families will remain in the camps until the floodwaters recede and the situation stabilizes.

In Kalyanpur, the Khowai River’s water level has risen significantly due to the continuous rainfall, raising concerns about a potential flood. However, the administration is taking a proactive approach. The BDO of Kalyanpur convened an emergency meeting with Panchayat Secretaries on Tuesday afternoon to ensure immediate readiness for setting up relief camps, if necessary. While an official flood declaration hasn’t been issued, precautionary measures are already being implemented.

The incessant rain has disrupted daily life in Kalyanpur, with residents expressing growing anxiety as the Khowai River continues to swell. They fear that further downpours could exacerbate the situation.

The Tripura administration is closely monitoring the situation in both Amarpur and Kalyanpur. Relief efforts are underway in Amarpur to support the displaced families, while Kalyanpur is taking precautionary measures to address any potential flooding.
