Must Read

Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports to India have surged nearly 40 per cent during the first four months of 2025. It has reached 334 million dollars compared to 239 million dollars a year earlier. According to data released by Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board, India has been the second-largest destination for the Island’s exports after the United States, overtaking the United Kingdom. In April alone, exports to India climbed 36.6 per cent to 77.7 million dollars.

Overall exports from Sri Lanka rose 12 per cent year-on-year to 983 million dollars in April 2025. Despite factory closures during the New Year holidays, this provided a strong boost to the Island nation’s economic recovery. Key contributors include apparel, tea, and coconut-based products.

The export boost signals strong regional demand and resilience in Sri Lanka’s manufacturing and agro-industries.
