Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited Kachchatheevu Island during his visit to the northern region of the island yesterday. He visited Kachchatheevu Island after launching several development projects in Jaffna. Addressing a gathering, he stressed that his government remains firmly committed to safeguarding Sri Lanka’s territorial integrity and will not compromise on sovereignty. He also paid a visit to St. Antony’s shrine on the Kachchatheevu island.
The President also inaugurated a series of development programmes in the Northern Province today, marking the second consecutive day of such initiatives.
Coinciding with World Coconut Day, he launched the “Ratama Saru Karai Nirathuru – Kapthuru Saviya” Northern Coconut Triangle project in Puthukudiyiruppu. The project targets 16,000 acres of coconut cultivation in the North by 2025, with expansion to 50,000 acres by 2027.
In addition to the agriculture push, the President inaugurated infrastructure projects, including the reconstruction of the Vaduvakal bridge.
