Sri Lankan Parliament Sets Timetable for the 2026 Budget

Sri Lanka’s Parliament has set the timetable for the 2026 budget. The first reading of the Appropriation Bill will be presented on 26 September, while President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Finance Minister, will deliver the budget speech on 7 November. 
 
 
The second reading debate will run from 8 to 14 November, with a vote scheduled for 14 November at 6 p.m. The Committee Stage debate will follow from 15 November to 5 December, concluding with the final vote on 5 December.
 
 
Parliament will meet daily during this period, including Saturdays but excluding Sundays and public holidays. Sessions will end at 6 p.m., followed by adjournment debates until 6.30 p.m. Time will also be set aside for oral questions and motions, with equal space for government and opposition voices.
