In cricket, Sri Lanka will face Bangladesh in the ICC Women’s World Cup at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai, today.
England defeated India by four runs in Indore last night. Chasing a target of 289 runs set by England, India managed to score only 284 for six in 50 overs. Smriti Mandhana’s 88, along with Harmanpreet Kaur’s 70 and Deepti Sharma’s fifty, kept the hosts in contention.
Earlier, opting to bat first, England scored 288 for eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Heather Knight’s 109 off 91 balls formed the backbone of England’s innings and ultimately proved to be the defining factor in the match. Heather was adjudged the Player of the match. For India, Deepti Sharma scalped four wickets and debutant Shree Charani took two.
The win assured an unbeaten England of a semi-final spot, joining Australia and South Africa. The loss for India, on the other hand, leaves them at a precarious spot with their next match against New Zealand on Thursday, essentially turning into a quarter-final.
