In a major repatriation operation, Sri Lanka deported 85 Chinese nationals convicted of cyber-related and other crimes. Local media reported that the group had been sentenced by Sri Lankan courts and held at the Immigration Detention Centre in Welisara following the completion of legal proceedings. Reports quoted officials who said the deportees were transported under tight security to Bandaranaike International Airport in five buses and flown to Guangzhou on a special chartered SriLankan Airlines flight. Authorities said the move followed due judicial process and immigration protocols and is considered one of the largest group deportations in the island’s recent history.
