Women empowerment in Tripura is taking a definite and effective shape as it has now been found that females are eager to join TSR- a combat force, felt Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
While addressing a programme jointly organized by Purvaudaya and State Bank of India at Apnaghar Old-Age Home of Barjala on Saturday, the Chief Minister said, it was once unthinkable that women would join the elite combat force like TSR which would mean tough duties and often extremely dangerous operations in difficult areas and in difficult situations.
But today’s scenario, the women are accepting the challenge and trying to join the combat forces.
“This shows the prevailing spirit of the women force of the state. Today they want to join the TSR and days would not be far off when they would join the Indian Navy and Air Force with the same spirit”, he maintained. Deb said the state government would recruit 500 women constables in Tripura Police and in the recruitment of another 500 police personnel, 10 percent would be reserved for women candidates.
The Chief Minister also stated that the recent recruitment in Tripura State Rifles was done in a total transparent manner but a section was trying to put a question on the recruitment process just to misguide the people.
As part of the initiatives for women empowerment, the state government would now ensure income to every woman above 25 years, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
The inmates of Apnaghar Old Age Home blessed the Chief Minister during the programme where various articles were distributed among them.
MLA Dilip Das, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, Purvaudaya general secretary Niti Deb, Swami Subhankarananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Mission (Viveknagar), SBI DGM Jitendra Kanta Thakur and others were present.
