Tripura Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy has written a letter to Union Minister for civil aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia seeking the ministry’s intervention to introduce small or middle sized air careers in Agartala-Kailashahar-Guwahati route and Agartala-Kailashahar-Imphal route, top sources in the transport department said on Wednesday.
“Under the Udan 4.1 scheme, the ministry has invited tenders from the private passenger career companies to participate in the bidding process. As of now, no airline has shown interest to participate in the tendering process. Apart from that, a written proposal has been forwarded to the ministry for maintenance and development of runways of the Kailashahar airport so that small or medium careers like Dornier 228 or ATR 72 can land in the airport”, said sources.
Apart from that, sources said, in a separate letter, Transport Minister Pranajit Singha Roy wrote to Union Minister Jyotiradistya Scindia seeking his intervention to introduce small and medium air careers for Kailashahar airport.
“We are trying to connect Kailashahar with Guwahati, Agartala and Imphal in the first phase”, officials added.
Besides, the state government in collaboration with the Centre has undertaken a number of initiatives for development of the airport. Only recently, maintenance works for the Air Traffic Control Building and Terminal Building have ended. The airport has already been incorporated under the Center’s Udan scheme, officials added. The state government has also reduced the tax on aviation turbine fuel from 18 percent to one percent to ensure that private airlines companies show interest in introducing flights in the state.
