Silk Mark Expo-2026 begins at Purvasha Urban Haat in Agartala, showcasing silk products, traditional handloom and handicrafts while promoting local artisans, silk cultivation and rural economic development in Tripura.
A five-day Silk Mark Expo-2026 began at Purvasha Urban Haat in Agartala on Wednesday, bringing together silk products, traditional handloom items and handicrafts from different parts of the country. The expo is being organised jointly by the Central Silk Board under the Union Ministry of Textiles and the Tripura government’s Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture Department.
Tripura’s Minister for Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture Bikash Debbarma inaugurated the expo in the presence of senior officials and other dignitaries. The event aims to promote silk products and provide weavers and artisans with opportunities to reach wider markets.
Addressing the gathering, Debbarma highlighted the potential of Tripura’s available land for economic development. He said there was no shortage of land in the state and stressed that proper planning and implementation would be essential to make effective use of available resources.
The minister said the government would introduce projects in the coming days and appealed to people to ensure that such initiatives were implemented properly. He also said a meeting would be held on Thursday with Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI) CEO Dr Naresh Babu N and other officials to discuss matters related to the development of the sector.
Debbarma said unused land in Tripura could be utilised to strengthen the rural economy and create greater economic opportunities for people living in rural areas. He further stressed the importance of successful silk cultivation and said that expanding the sector could contribute to the state’s goal of building a “Viksit Tripura.”
The five-day expo features silk products brought from different parts of the country alongside Tripura’s traditional silk and handloom products. Visitors can explore and purchase a variety of silk garments, silk-based products and traditional handicrafts displayed at stalls across the venue.
The expo also provides local weavers, artisans and producers with a platform to showcase their products to consumers and buyers from a wider market. Such exhibitions offer opportunities for artisans to promote traditional skills while increasing awareness about locally produced handloom and silk items.

Senior officials, including Additional Secretary and Director Ajit Shukla Das, SMOI CEO Dr Naresh Babu N and Special Secretary Kuntal Das, attended the inaugural programme.
Following the inauguration, the dignitaries visited the theme pavilion and various stalls at the venue, where silk, handloom and handicraft products are being showcased during the five-day event.
