Intelligence agencies in India and Bangladesh have uncovered a planned November movement by a Jamaat-e-Islami coalition to topple the BNP government, replace the president with Muhammad Yunus, and enforce a Shariat-driven revolutionary regime.
Cross-border intelligence agencies from India and Bangladesh have intercepted details of an orchestrated campaign by a coalition led by the radical Islamist outfit Jamaat-e-Islami to destabilize and overthrow the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government.
According to investigative reports, the Islamist bloc has outlined plans for an aggressive, multi-pronged street offensive scheduled to peak in November, aiming to dissolve the current political arrangement and impose an authoritarian, Shariat-driven constitutional regime across the country.
The underlying objective of the coalition is to establish a self-styled “revolutionary government” anchored in the contentious July Charter. This charter advocates replacing Bangladesh’s existing constitutional foundation with a hardline theological framework.
Intelligence findings indicate that the National Citizens Party (NCP)—an organization formed by youth figures affiliated with former interim chief advisor Muhammad Yunus—has been tapped to spearhead the agitation. Planners intend to force the removal of current President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, install Yunus at the helm of state power, and initiate wide-ranging systemic purges.
Strategic planners behind the initiative, including a cadre of retired military personnel centered around former Brigadier Abdullahil Aman Azmi, have grown increasingly dissatisfied with the BNP administration. The ruling party has repeatedly resisted demands to enact the July Charter or clear a path for a radically altered Islamist legal order.
According to intelligence disclosures published by regional media, the conspiratorial network has established operational and logistical links with external backers, drawing alleged support from Pakistan, Turkey, and select geopolitical circles seeking regime modification in South Asia.
The destabilization plan has reportedly been designed as a two-phase operation. The initial stage, designated “Operation Domon” (Suppression), is structured to aggressively neutralize the Awami League, preempting any political resurgence surrounding ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Under this blueprint, Azmi’s coordinating team initially sought tactical convergence with the BNP administration to dismantle Awami League apparatuses across urban centers, effectively neutralizing one political rival before turning its attention directly toward unseating the BNP itself.
Simultaneously, key figures within the network have coordinated weapons procurement and organizational infrastructure to equip an operational fighting force. Former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) chief Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury reportedly spent an extensive operational window in Turkey negotiating arms transactions for an irregular militia being assembled under the administrative cover of an “Armed Reserve.”
Reports indicate that approximately 8,800 radicalized youths have already been recruited and inducted into combat training programs featuring specialized riot, crowd-suppression, and tactical intervention modules. Intelligence evaluators conclude that the units are designed not for external border defense, but for deployment against domestic institutions and political opponents.
Strategic coordination for “Operation Domon” began consolidating in July from a residence in Dhaka’s Banani Defence Officers Housing Society (DOHS). Bangladesh military intelligence assessments confirmed that diplomatic missions linked to Pakistani and Turkish intelligence personnel maintained recurrent contact with the Banani operational hub.
Furthermore, domestic security tracking highlighted frequent visits by Pakistani diplomatic officials, including envoy Imran Haider, to religious institutions and madrasas under the pretext of identifying candidates for scholarship programs in Pakistan. Internal security officials have raised alarms that these initiatives may serve as pipelines for indoctrination and specialized combat recruitment aimed at regional targets in Bangladesh and adjoining Indian border states.
