Dissident BJP MLA from Surma assembly constituency- Ashis Das has sounded that he will join the Trinamool Congress within a day or two.

On Tuesday he at Kalighat in Kolkata shaved his head and announced that he had left the BJP for good. Das said he would not grow hair until and unless BJP is routed from Tripura.

His melodramatic actions were however triggered reactions in the state and even his one time mentor and BJP dissident group leader minced no words to slam Das for his ‘stupidity and insanity’ while doing such tantrums in Kolkata. Social media is also abuzz with jokes and trolls regarding Das’ actions.

Das whoopenly revolted against Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb among four other MLAs will be the first BJP legislator to have taken the ultimate step.  Others dissidents – who have already lost much of the thunder , of late, are maintain low profile and ostensibly trying to feel which way the wind blows before they set their sail on. Besides, they are also not ready to join another party –without being expelled and thus losing the MLAship.

Das after winning the elections in BJP ticket from Surma SC constituency was expecting a ministerial berth whch was not forthcoming. After some wait he up in arms against the Chief Minister and made some scathing remarks against him. The BJP, however, felt it prudent to ignore him totally and Das was virtually left in the cold.

Das however seems to be in desperation and has decided to go alone. The BJP MLA  is presently in Kolkata meeting the Trinamool Congress leaders and on Monday he minced no words to praise Mamata Banerjee –who he saw as the next Prime Minister-as a prelude to his new journey.

Speaking to the media, Das hinted that he was very likely to join the TMC in presence of AITC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday itself, taking the political speculations to a new shape.

Das said he would have some engagements at Kalighat on October 5 next and then he would make it clear in case of any political development.

However, according to political experts, Das is likely to lose his MLA-ship once he joins the TMC.

He said, “at present situation, Mamata Banerjee is the most popular Chief Minister in the country. Her spectacular win in the Bhavanipur by-polls is expected, not only for West Bengal but also for the entire country.”

“At a time when all the BJP ruled states are functioning in an autocratic style, Mamata Banerjee, a most accepted people’s leader, has now emerged as a strong ‘opposition face’ for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls,” the BJP MLA told the media.

Das said the Bengali people had immense contributions in ending British rule in the country but since independence, the Bengalis didn’t receive the political recognition they deserve.

“At such a situation, Mamata Banerjee’s emergence as a strong opposition face is obviously a matter of pride for the Bengalis while many people are supporting her as the next Prime Minister of the country. She also represents Matri Shakti. Being a Bengali man, I shall proudly support Mamata Banerjee if she becomes Prime Minister,” Das said.
