Severe monsoon-induced landslides disrupt NH-2 & NH-29 in Nagaland

Must Read

Nagaland is currently experiencing widespread disruption caused by severe monsoon-induced landslides that have significantly damaged major transportation routes, particularly National Highways 29 and 2. They are critical arteries connecting the state internally and with neighbouring Manipur. The most extensive damage has been reported along NH-2 near Phesama, where landslides since June have severed the primary road link between Kohima and Manipur. Although an alternative bypass route was activated for light and medium vehicles, a massive mudslide on Sunday along the  Phesama-Kisama-Kigwema route caused extensive damage to public infrastructure, rendering the route impassable. However, this route was restored last evening and is now open to traffic. NH-29, the crucial lifeline connecting Dimapur and Kohima, has also suffered repeated landslides at several vulnerable points, prompting restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles. The State Government continues to engage actively in restoration efforts, working to clear mudslides and restore public mobility.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio visited the landslide-affected area along with Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang yesterday.

He said the state government is taking all necessary measures to minimise inconvenience to citizens and restore normalcy at the earliest.     Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in the state from tomorrow till Sunday.
