While the entire state is reeling under devastating flood situation, in most tragic incident seven people -INCLUDING A THREE YEARS OLD CHILD-died in landslides at Shantirbazar’s Gardang (Ashwini Tripura para)  area due to landslide on Wednesday night.

Only recently three persons died in Debipur of Shantirbazar in a similar landslide.

So far with the Gardang deaths total toll due to landslides and drowning in flood water in Tripura stood at 17.

At around 11 pm last night a massive landslip came crashing down onto two houses burying seven people alive. The two families were related. One person – eldest one amongst them all had miraculous escape as at the landslip moment he went out of the home. Of the deceased two belong to one family and five to other.

Reports reaching here said, so far six bodies could be recovered while efforts were on to find the seventh one.

Rescue team could not reach the spot due to flood and it was the locals who had to get into the debris clearing.

Those who were killed due to landslide were identified as Umacharan Tripura (25), Mandira Tripura (23) in one family and Prasenjit Tripura (21), Ajay Tripura (16), Rakesh Tripura (18), Jyotika Tripura (21) and Kumtuisa Tripura (3) in another family.

Locals said, as heavy rains lashed out and flood situation all around continues to threaten, most of the villagers took shelter in relief camps. However, these two families stayed back. They were also planning to move out but the tragic accident happened.
