Sensex Soars 944 Points, Nifty Gains 263 Points

Benchmark domestic equity indices, the Sensex and the Nifty, bounced back today, gaining over one per cent aided by value buying after a steep decline in the previous session. Markets started the day on a negative note amid weak global cues. However, they managed to recover and traded higher throughout the afternoon session. The Sensex jumped 944 points to close at 81,666, while the Nifty climbed 263 points to settle at 25,088. 
 
In the forex market today, the rupee appreciated by 48 paise to trade at 91 rupees and 51 paise against the US dollar, a short while ago.
 
In the global crude oil market, Brent Crude was trading 4.3 per cent down at 66 US dollars and 33 cents per barrel, and WTI Crude was trading more than four and a half per cent down at 62 US dollars and 24 cents per barrel in intra-day trade. 
 
In the Indian bullion market, 24-Carat gold was trading down at 1,45,620 rupees per 10 grams, and silver 999 fine was trading lower at 2,43,370 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.
