Sensex, Nifty extend gains for second straight session

Benchmark domestic equity indices ended with modest gains, extending their positive momentum for second straight session in a range bound trade today. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, climbed 144 points, or 0.18 per cent to close at 81 thousand 482. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 advanced 34 points, or 0.14 per cent to settle at 24 thousand 855. The broader market indices at the BSE also ended marginally up. Both the Mid-Cap and the Small-Cap indices added 0.17 per cent each.
        In the Sensex pack, 15 out of 30 companies ended in positive territory. Among the top gainers, Larsen and Toubro surged over 4.8 per cent, Sun Pharma climbed 1.4 per cent, and NTPC advanced over 1.2 per cent. Among the top laggards, Tata Motors lost more than 3.4 per cent, PowerGrid dropped around 1.4 per cent, and Eternal dipped over 0.9 per cent.
        In Sectoral indices at the BSE, 11 out of 21 sectors showed upward trend. Among the top gainers, Industrials rose 1.3 per cent, Teck as well as Focused IT, both advanced over 0.3 per cent each, and FMCG added around 0.3 per cent. Among the top laggards, Realty slipped one per cent, Services  declined over 0.7 per cent, and Auto fell over 0.6 per cent.
