Benchmark domestic equity indices fell around half a per cent today. The Sensex slipped 417 points to close at 76 thousand and 887, while the Nifty dipped 97 points to settle at 23 thousand and 996. However, the broader market indices on the National Stock Exchange ended in the green. The Midcap 100 added 0.3 per cent, while the small-cap 100 rose 0.4 per cent.
Earlier, the market opened on a tepid note, tracking mixed trends in global equities. The Sensex and Nifty turned positive for a while but lost momentum during afternoon trade and ended lower amid the monthly expiry of Nifty futures and options contracts. Elevated crude oil prices and ongoing geopolitical uncertainties also weighed on the market.
