Even as the process to make the MBB Airport as International Airport was put in place, concerned agencies also carried out security arrangements and vulnerabilities in the airport on February 15.
Recently on Tuesday last the officials reviewed and discussed in details about the threat perception and preparedness to pre-empt any sort of security breach in the airport which incidentally is located bang on the international border –which also renders it as one of the highly sensitive airports in the country.
“The Aerodrome Committee Meeting followed by Airfield Environmental Management Committee Meeting held today at MBB Airport, Agartala with all the Stakeholders to discuss the preparedness in the event of hijack situation and to prevent/reduce birds & wildlife hazards to aircraft,” the MBB Airport, Agartala shared from their official Twitter handle.
“Tripura being the only state to share its border from three sides with neighbouring country Bangladesh is very sensitive in terms of security. Therefore a meeting to review the emergency situation is needed at regular intervals,” an official from MBB Airport said.
The new terminal of the airport in Agartala has 20 check-in counters, six parking bays( all power in & push back), four-passenger boarding bridges, conveyor belts and passenger-friendly modern facilities and amenities like In line baggage system(ILBS), Escalators, Lifts etc. It does also have two new Taxiways, Hangar for A-321, new Isolation Bay, CISF Barrack, E & M Workshop and new operational boundary wall have also been constructed at a cost of around Rs. 113.00 crores, it said.
