Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia begins a three-day Tripura visit to review DoNER-funded infrastructure and tourism projects, lay foundation stones, inspect heritage sites, and strengthen Centre-state cooperation for regional development in Northeast India.

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jyotiraditya Scindia is set to begin a three-day official visit to Tripura from January 23, aimed at reviewing and accelerating key infrastructure and tourism development projects funded by the central government. The visit underscores the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening economic growth and connectivity in the northeastern states.

Transport Minister of Tripura, Sushanta Chowdhury, confirmed the itinerary on Thursday while addressing the media. He stated that the Union minister will lay foundation stones for several important projects sanctioned under the DoNER Ministry and will closely monitor their progress on the ground.

According to Chowdhury, Scindia will arrive in Agartala on January 23 and hold a meeting with Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha to discuss ongoing and upcoming development initiatives in the state. The two leaders will also jointly visit several project sites to assess implementation and identify areas requiring further intervention.

As part of his official engagements, the Union minister will attend a public programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, where he is expected to outline the Centre’s vision for sustainable development in Tripura and the wider northeastern region. Officials indicated that the programme will highlight key DoNER initiatives focused on infrastructure, tourism, and regional connectivity.

During his visit, Scindia will also offer prayers at the Tripura Sundari Temple in Udaipur, one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the state. The DoNER Ministry has sanctioned a multi-storied car parking facility at the temple to ease congestion and improve amenities for devotees. The Union minister is scheduled to inspect the proposed project site during his visit, signaling the government’s emphasis on integrating infrastructure development with cultural and religious tourism.

On January 24, Scindia will travel to Kadamtala in North Tripura district, where he will lay the foundation stone for a cluster management project aimed at promoting local economic activity and improving livelihood opportunities. Officials believe the project will play a crucial role in strengthening decentralized development and supporting community-based enterprises.

Following this, the Union minister will visit the renowned Unakoti rock carvings, a nationally significant heritage site known for its ancient stone sculptures and growing tourism potential. The visit is expected to bring renewed attention to the conservation and promotion of the site as a key cultural destination in the Northeast.

Later in the day, Scindia will proceed to Narikelkunja, where he is scheduled to stay overnight. Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury will accompany and receive the Union minister during this leg of the visit, ensuring coordination with state authorities.

On January 25, the final day of the tour, Scindia will lay foundation stones for multiple projects under the Matabari tourism circuit development plan at Narikelkunja. The initiative is designed to enhance tourism infrastructure, improve visitor facilities, and create employment opportunities in the region. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will participate in the programme virtually from Agartala.

Projects under the DoNER Ministry are expected to improve connectivity, boost economic activity, and position Tripura as a key growth hub in the northeastern region.
