The Albert Ekka Brigade organised a Know Your Army Campaign in Agartala, featuring weapon displays, interactive sessions, and tributes to Param Vir Chakra awardee Albert Ekka, strengthening military–civil bonding ahead of Republic Day.

The Albert Ekka Brigade of Red Shield Division based in Agartala, held a “Know Your Army” camp at the Albert Ekka War Memorial on Thursday. The event organized before the Republic Day was aimed at fostering greater awareness and connection with the youth of and with the Indian Army’s ethos, capabilities and roles towards nation-building.

As part of the campaign, a weapon and equipment display was organised, showcasing a range of modern military weapons and systems.

The display triggered much enthusiasm mostly among the children who thronged the place with wide eyes filled with curiosity and held the weapons in their hand and asked question to the soldiers who happily helped them handle the weapons and explained as to how they worked..

The soldiers explained the operational aspects, features and significance of the displayed equipment.

An interactive session with Army personnel and quiz formed the key highlight of the event, wherein students and general public engaged directly with soldiers to learn about life in the Army, training standards, and discipline and career opportunities. The interaction inspired many young minds and strengthened Military-Civil bonding.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, local residents and visitors, who appreciated the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge about the Indian Army and its dedication towards safeguarding the nation.

It may be mentioned here that the park was named after Paramveer Lance Nayek Elbert Ekka who made supreme sacrifice on the 3-4 December night 1971 at Gangasagar when his 14 Guards regiment fought valiantly in close battles at Gangasagar Railway station in present day Bangladesh.

Along with Ln Nk Ekka 10 others were also became martyrs in that decisive battle at the very beginning of the official India Pak war in 1971. All the martyrs were buried in Dukli area at the outskirt of the city. It was for their extreme valour and sacrifice that Pakistani plan to capture Agartala city was prevented effectively and decisively. Ln Nk Ekka became the only Paramveer Chakra awardee (posthumously) in the Eastern sector out of total four in 1971 War.
