Bollywood actor Salman Khan has urged audiences to focus on the story and central characters of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana rather than its VFX, casting and production budget. Speaking at a promotional event, he also discussed his upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has shared his views on the much-anticipated Indian epic film Ramayana, urging audiences and film enthusiasts to focus on the story, characters and cultural significance of the epic rather than concentrating on visual effects, casting choices and production expenses.

The actor made these remarks while attending a special promotional event for his upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace in the Andheri West area of Mumbai on Friday. He was accompanied by his co-actors at the event.

Speaking to the media, Salman said discussions surrounding Ramayana should remain centred on the epic itself, particularly its central characters, including Lord Ram, Sita and Ravan.

He expressed his view that the ongoing discussions about the film’s reported Rs. 4,000 crore production budget and visual effects were unnecessary distractions from its actual subject.

According to Salman, audiences should pay greater attention to the story and the significance of Ramayana rather than focusing excessively on technical and financial aspects of filmmaking.

The upcoming Ramayana has generated considerable attention among audiences, particularly because of its ambitious visual effects, star-studded casting and large-scale production. The film has also attracted interest for its music, composed by Oscar and Grammy-winning musician A. R. Rahman in collaboration with legendary Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer.

The collaboration between Rahman and Zimmer has further increased anticipation surrounding the project, making its musical composition another major talking point among cinema enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, which was previously titled Galwan. The war drama is based on the June 15, 2020, violent confrontation between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley of eastern Ladakh.

The incident took place during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India and was part of a wider military standoff between the two countries along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The confrontation resulted in the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers and also caused casualties on the Chinese side. It became the deadliest military confrontation between India and China in more than four decades, significantly escalating tensions along the disputed border.

Following the incident, both countries increased their military deployments in the region while diplomatic and military-level discussions continued to prevent further escalation.

The situation subsequently saw diplomatic engagement between the two neighbouring countries, with multiple communication channels and discussions aimed at maintaining stability along the border.

Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is expected to bring the events surrounding the Galwan Valley confrontation to the big screen, highlighting the challenges faced by Indian soldiers during the border conflict.

During the media interaction, Salman also addressed rumours suggesting that the government had pressured him to make changes to the film’s script. The actor denied the reports, dismissing speculation about government interference in the movie’s creative process.

His comments come amid growing public interest in both Ramayana and Maatrubhumi, two projects that have attracted attention for very different reasons. While Ramayana is generating discussion around its cinematic scale and presentation of an Indian epic, Salman’s upcoming war drama is drawing interest because of its connection to a significant chapter in India’s recent military history.

Through his remarks, Salman has encouraged audiences to look beyond production-related discussions and appreciate the central narrative and themes of films.
