Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)candidate for Rajya Sabha Dr Manik Saha and CPM candidate for Rajya Sabha Bhanu Saha both submitted their nomination to the Returning Officer Suithuifru Mog on Saturday. Their names were announced yesterday by their respective parties.
During submission of nomination he was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Union MOS Pratima Bhowmik, Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, TIDC Chairman Tinku Roy, Mahila Morcha leader Papiya Datta .
The formal announcement on BJP nomination came from BJP national general secretary Arun Singh on Friday. Dr Saha, who is also BJP president of the state was named along with three other candidates from Assam (Pa itra Margerita, Nagaland (S. Phangnon Konyak) and Himachal Pradesh (Sikandra Kumar).
CPM state unit secretary Jitendra Choudhury announced MLA Bhanu Saha’s candidature as the Rajya Sabha nominee for the party.
The Election Commission of India announced biennial elections to 13 seats of Tripura among six states.
The 13 Rajya Sabha seats included two from Assam, one from Tripura, three from Punjab, one from Nagaland, three from Kerala and one from Himachal Pradesh.
Jharna Das Baidya is the present MP from Tripura to Rajya Sabha and her term of office will expire on April 4, next.
According to ECI notification, the elections and counting of votes will take place on March 31 next.
The poll notification will be issued on March 14 and the last date for submission of nominations will be March 21. The scrutiny of the nominations will be held on March 22 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is March 24, the notification said
