In a significant move towards the over all development of the Reang community, identified as one of the 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in India, the Tribal Welfare Minister of Tripura, Sukla Charan Noatia, announced the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN). The initiative aims to provide the Reang community with essential amenities, including safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, improved education, healthcare, nutrition, as well as enhanced road and telecommunication connectivity.
During a press conference held in Agartala, Minister Noatia revealed that the Union Cabinet had approved the mission, focusing on 11 critical interventions aligned with key ministries and departments, with a substantial budgetary allocation exceeding Rs. 24,000 crore. Of this, the Central government is set to contribute Rs. 15,336 crore, and Rs. 8,768 crore will be sanctioned under the DAPST (Development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups in Scheduled Areas) Mission.
The 11 key interventions encompass a variety of sectors to address the comprehensive development of the Reang community. These include the provision of pucca houses by the Rural Development Department, with an allotment of Rs. 2,35,000 to each beneficiary. The initiative also focuses on ensuring electricity in all Reang households, piped water supply or community water supply through the Department of Water Supply, improved road connectivity, better medical facilities, an advanced education system by the Education Department, construction of Anganwadi centers, multi-purpose centers, setting up of Dhan Vikas Kendras by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and enhanced telecommunication facilities by the Department of Telecommunication.
Minister Noatia emphasized that a nationwide awareness and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign would be launched to disseminate information about the mission and its benefits. This campaign will include saturation camps and health camps for convenient enrollment in various interventions such as Aadhaar cards, Ayushman cards, Kisan Credit Cards, and sanitation check-ups, conducted through IEC camps.
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs is collaborating with relevant departments to execute necessary measures, including beneficiary saturation camps and outreach programs. The PM-JANMAN Mission is poised to be a transformative step towards the socio-economic development of the Reang community, with the potential to contribute significantly to the overall progress of the state.
