In a significant move towards social inclusivity, Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy announced the inclusion of 29,410 more beneficiaries under the social pension scheme during a press conference held on Saturday. The expansion encompasses diverse categories, aiming to support a wide spectrum of individuals facing various challenges in society.

New Beneficiary Breakdown: Minister Tinku Roy detailed the new beneficiaries, revealing that they include 1,653 widows, 5,388 deserted wives, 14,197 senior citizens, 420 unmarried women, 1,946 differently-abled persons, and 11,194 individuals falling under other categories. This expansion reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the diverse needs of marginalized groups.

Government’s Social Welfare Initiatives Praised: In response to the minister’s announcement, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) expressed gratitude during a press conference at their state office. BJP State Spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee conveyed appreciation, stating, “We thank the government for including more beneficiaries under the social pension scheme.”

Bhattacharjee highlighted the government’s previous decision to increase the social pension amount to Rs. 2,000, applauding the latest initiative to extend the reach of the scheme. He emphasized the government’s dedication to empowering marginalized and disadvantaged groups, aiming to enhance their quality of life.

Focus on Strengthening Party Structure: Commenting on the reconstitution of the state unit, Bhattacharjee noted the party’s strategic move to form a new committee at the state level. An 18-member state committee has been established with the expectation that the newly appointed leaders will work collaboratively to fortify the party’s position, especially in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

He expressed confidence that the cohesive efforts of the newly inducted leaders would contribute to the party’s growth and its ability to effectively represent the interests of the people in the forthcoming political landscape.

As the government expands its social welfare initiatives and the BJP strengthens its organizational structure, the developments signal a commitment to both societal well-being and political resilience in the region.
