There were increasing incidents of theft, attacks and mugging in the state for the last few  months and.

While very recently official files were stolen by some ragpickers from even Police Headquarters and Higher Education departments, there were also visible rise of other violent crimes in the city.

Close on the heels of attacks on a Congress worker’s residence , on Sunday night armed robbers made a daring heist in the city outskirt.

Four youths forcibly entered the house of one Rajesh Das, a Bank employee at East Aralia of Agartala late on Sunday night. They tied the house owner Das and then decamped with cash gold ornaments.

The incident took place at around 1.30 am on Sunday night.

The robbers also threatened not to disclose the incident to anybody, the victim couple told the reporters.

They said, East Agartala police was informed about the incident but so far no arrest could be made.

The robbery raised an alarm in the city which had for long not witnessed such a violent break in and daring dacoity. The police was, according to sources, trying hard to know the identity of the robbers.

Some felt that the robbery could have been committed by desperate drugs addicts who were perpetually in crisis.

One senior reporter was also attacked by two bike borne miscreants recently who snatched away his bag and also beat him mercilessly.

The official files which had been simply taken away by the ragpickers and sold at Maharajgang Bazaar and other places only  pointed out that all is not well with the city policing and there were serious lapses of night vigil and surveillance. The security breach of the Police Headquarters was only the pointer.
