More than 800 voters joined BJP in Majlsihpur on Monday as ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury welcomed them.
In the wake of Sudip Roy Barman’s demand for President’s Rule in Tripura the ruling BJP came down on him heavily on Monday.
ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhry in a press conference minced no words to castigate the Congress MLA for misleading the nation and demanding to axe a democratically elected government.
Congress has a very close relations with President’s Rule – both being synonymous, said Chowdhury.
“Sudip babu has a special knack for raking up law and order situation at drop of a hat. When Left Front was in power he used to scream ‘a reign of terror’ has been created in Tripura by the CPM. Now he is at it again”, said Chowdhury.
“However, he never went to Delhi and demanded a President’s Rule in Tripura when the Communists were in power. This time he raised the demand only to send a wrong message and tarnish the state’s image in the country. This was the same ploy he had adopted while he was in BJP”, said the ICA minister in a press conference.
He alleged that the Congress in Tripura was playing the second fiddle to the Communists.
“Congress is demanding President’s Rule in the state as it wants to bring the CPM to power through backdoor”, he said.
Chowdhury had a ready reference to point out that it was the Congress which had given Tripura in a platter to the CPM imposing President’s Rule in the state in 1993 when Narasima Rao was the Prime Minister.
“This time also Congress had taken the responsibility at the behest of the CPM so that the communists could wrest the power in the next assembly polls,” Chowdhury said.
He maintained the demand for the President’s Rule was the prelude to the political understanding between the Congress and the Communists and that the people of Tripura would reject such ploy.
As for Roy Barman’s allegations of increase in crime against women , the minister maintained that according to the NCRB report the state had secured the top position in terms of crimes against women when the CPM was in power. He said, earlier the rate of conviction was also less as then the party in power would get the accused acquitted by using police.
BJP state spokesman Nabendu Bhattacharjee was also present in the press conference.
In the meantime, Chowdhury gave a huge jolt to the opposition Congress and CPM when more than 800 voters joined the BJP in a programme
In Majlishpur constituency 860 voters joined the saffron camp on Monday.
Chowdhury welcomed the new voters in the presence of Janajati Morcha’s state president Bikas Debbarma and other local leaders.
This was a huge achievements for the BJP as the joining took place only two months before the ensuing Village Committee elections. Those who joined the BJP on Monday were from Chargharia, Uttar Joynagar, Paschim Barjala, Madhavbari, Kaiyachandbari and Bishrambari under Majlishpur constituency,.
