In a verdict, the special POCSO court of Khowai district has handed down a twenty-year imprisonment to a convicted rapist. Brajendra Debbarma, aged 65, was found guilty of raping a seven-year-old child on April 19, 2021, in the 36 Miles area under Mungiakami police station. Alongside the prison term, the court imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on the perpetrator.
The arrest of Debbarma followed swiftly after the victim’s parents filed a First Information Report (FIR). The case proceeded to trial, with the court recording statements from 14 witnesses.
Advocates Abhijit Bhattacharjee and Ajit Sarkar represented the prosecution in this distressing case, ensuring justice was served for the young victim.
The charge sheet was submitted on July 31, 2021, marking a crucial step towards the resolution of this harrowing incident.
