A 50-year old person accused of raping a 5-year old girl was allegedly lynched by villagers in Gandachhera on Wednesday.

The rape accused, Ratan Acharjee hailed from Debnath Para under Gandachhera. Acharjee reportedly lured the minor girl who came to attend a religious programme with her mother at a residence of one of the villagers on Tuesday. Acharjee reportedly took her to a nearby forest.

Meantime, the girl’s mother raised an alarm after she noticed her daughter was not present on the spot. Villagers soon went to search the girl and later recovered the girl unconscious from a jungle. She was taken to the Gandachhera Hospital.

As Acharjee had a bad reputation and was infamous for his unethical activities, villagers suspected his involvement in the incident – but Acharjee managed to flee away from the area. Meantime police were informed.

Alert villagers got a tip-off and picked up Ratan Acharjee from Gachbagan area along Amarpur-Gandachhera road. As he was brought to the village, villagers beat him brutally.  Meantime, Police reached the spot and managed to recover Ratan Acharjee from the clutches of furious villagers who were demanding the death penalty for him. Police rushed fatally injured him to Gandachhera Hospital – but soon he succumbed.
