Rajib Bhattacharjee, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tripura Pradesh, was sworn in as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. The oath was administered by Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankar, marking a significant moment in Tripura’s political landscape.

Bhattacharjee was elected to the Upper House of Parliament in a by-election held on September 3, 2024. He secured a convincing victory against CPI-M candidate and former MLA Sudhan Das. Bhattacharjee won the by-election with 47 votes in the 60-member Tripura Assembly, while Das managed only 10 votes.

In his address on social media following the cerem20ony, Bhattacharjee expressed his gratitude and dedication to serving the people of Tripura. He reiterated his commitment to realizing the vision of a developed Tripura as part of a stronger India, aligning his efforts with the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Present at the oath-taking ceremony were prominent political figures, including BJP National President JP Nadda, Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, and other BJP officials from Tripura, including Minister Tinku Roy and state BJP General Secretary Amit Rakshit.

The Rajya Sabha seat became vacant when former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb resigned after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Tripura West, prompting the by-election. Bhattacharjee’s win is seen as a significant boost to the BJP’s presence in Tripura’s political landscape.
